In Europe, CSST employs ca. 4,000 employees across 16 production facilities, 14 offices, and 3 innovation centers and application labs. CSST Europe headquarters is located in Mechelen (Belgium. Of direct relevance for the PLENITUDE project are the corn & wheat processing facility in Sas van Gent (The Netherlands) and the European R&D center in Vilvoorde (Belgium).
Cargill’s Sas van Gent site was established in 1911. It has evolved over time in a site offering a broad product portfolio based on corn, wheat, tapioca starch, and potato starch. The wheat starch refinery is responsible for producing maltodextrin and glucose syrups out of wheat starch. The alcohol plant is capable of processing residual starch and syrup streams. Wastewater is cleaned in the on-site treatment plant. The site counts ca. 350 employees.
